Mild mannered Eddie Edwards (Taron Egerton), believes he can be a champion and despite all the odds and with the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach Bronson Peary (Hugh Jackman), wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Eddie the Eagle is an inspiring (based on a true story) which jollies along helped by a good performance from Hugh Jackman. The movie might have made more of 80s music which would have been a perfect match for the climate and climatic nature of the plot. Not exactly the best British comedy but no less enjoyable and full of the usual sporting clichés which makes it prefect for the kids.
